Powder coating
Powder coating at Duracoat
The process of powder coating
During polymerization, electrostatically charged powder particles adhere to and melt on the metal surface. This creates a homogeneous protective layer. Thus, since no solvents are used and unused coating powder (overspray) is maximally recovered, powder coating is a sustainable and environmentally friendly way to protect metal.
At Duracoat thermosetting powders are also used, which must melt and cure or polymerize in the oven. This is in contrast to thermoplastics in which, on heated material, the powder is applied and melts without a chemical reaction must take place.
Proper pre-treatment before powder spraying is crucial to achieving beautiful and durable results. That’s why at Duracoat we deliberately specialized in zinc phosphatation. Thus, we achieve optimal adhesion and double the corrosion resistance!
Why zinc phosphating?
We have a distinct preference for zinc phosphatation when we powder coat cold-rolled steel, galvanized steel or aluminum.
Indeed, salt spray tests show that this chemical pretreatment facilitatesbetter adhesion between the powder coating and the metal surface, and the corrosion protection lasts much longer.
These are important assets for the automotive, industrial applications, food and construction industries.

Our powder coating capabilities
Different substrates
In the paint shop we powder coat a variety of metal components made from hot or cold rolled steel, galvanized steel or aluminum. Just think of production and machine parts, roof accessories, automotive parts, street furniture, fences, parts for food industry and stores, … The range is endless.
Custom coating powders
Depending on the required technical properties, we powder coat with specific coating powders:
- Polyester Powders with excellent outdoor resistance for outdoor applications.
- Epoxy powders with specific chemical properties, on request also with food inspection.
- Polyurethane Powders because of their outdoor resistance and anti-graffiti properties.
- Thermoplastic powders such as AbciteĀ® and RilsanĀ®.
Dimensions
Our automated powder coating line processes parts with dimensions up to 3000 x 2100 x 800 mm. For small runs, non-standard dimensions and manual powder spraying, we also have several separate spray booths.
Layer thickness
In one working step, we build up a layer thickness of 60 to 120 microns. With adapted processes, different layer thicknesses or two-layer coatings are also possible.
Other services
Plastify
To protect metal surfaces, we apply plastic coatings such as AbciteĀ®, RilsanĀ® and ResicoatĀ®. We do this with various plastification techniques such as vertebral sintering or hot spraying.
Fluorinated coatings
Duracoat has a wide range of options in surface treatment techniques and therefore also in printing. As a final finish, we can also print or print on your coated products or painted parts. V coat provides a total solution through various in-house printing techniques.
Pretreatment
The quality of powder or wet-lacquer coating stands or falls with proper and thorough pre-treatment of the materials. Only then will you get an even, scratch-resistant and beautiful end result.
AbciteĀ® coating
For corrosion protection and chemical resistance, AbciteĀ® is recommended. As well as for extreme corrosion protection in water treatment in the marine and offshore sector.
Additional Services
Duracoat also offers the solution for additional services. One of the sister companies within the group, V coat, specializes in printing, assembly and EMI shielding.
