Renovation of carriages NMBS
Renovation of SNCB's 30-year-old MR coaches
In 2012, we received the order from SNCB to give 117 MR coaches (with 3 wagons each) a new livery after 30 years. The old dated yellow color was replaced with a light gray metallic color.
Per coach there were an 1100 parts to renovate. The time for this was contractually limited by SNCB to exactly 14 days per wagon.
To this end, the railroad’s central workshop in Mechelen completely dismantled each carriage. We stripped the steel parts ourselves; the aluminum parts were stripped externally. Then the various parts (jibs, luggage racks, ceiling panels, air vents, window profiles, etc.) went through the complete pretreatment with zinc phosphatation, and were coated in a modern metallic 9006, in both matte and glossy versions. The assignment was completed in the summer of 2019.
